Senior high school me in Any Such Thing Goes
Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally referred to as J Frey) and I am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I was raised in Hollister, a tiny farm city in Northern California which includes no affiliation whatsoever with the clothes store. I attended a large public senior high school with over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to learn theater. My hope is that through sharing my own experiences, I will give you some advice and help you feel at ease once you approach the school admission process.
Many of you visitors is going to be signing up to college before you know it, and I also desire to be sure you know that is going to be all about you. It might feel a little weird and selfish for anyone who are constantly placing other’s needs before your personal. But in order so that you can make an informed university list and end up at a destination where you belong and feel happy, you do need to produce the college search procedure exactly about yourself.
I do not know about you, but when I happened to be in highschool I made a lot of my decisions based on what other people had been doing and thinking. It’s cool to wear red pants now? Ok, maybe I will go get that pair I had been eyeing during the mall weekend that is last. All the other kids in my class are applying to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. My therapist says I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus class? I wonder if i will apply to engineering, even though I have NO CONCEPT what being an engineer is all about. We were holding all real thoughts I’d as well as many others throughout that anxious and fall that is stressful of senior year.
You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Here are three fundamental principles I think every highschool student should keep in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:
Focus on facts rather than opinions. Many individuals form views about different universities and colleges, however you should really give attention to your own thoughts of the educational schools as well as the information you see as you study the universities that interest you. It is important you are thinking about a university because they offer something which you want in your undergraduate experience- not merely because other folks you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation.
Think about that which you want in a college experience, and apply to schools correctly. This is the time for you to be a happy and thriving student for you to think about what a college campus should have in order. Would you like to visit college in a large city or perhaps a rural university town? Would you like to study abroad in a country that is particular? What sort of activities do you desire to pursue outside of the classroom? Would you like to have the opportunity to get results closely with your professors? It has everything you’re looking for, add it to the list if you find a school you’ve never heard of but! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your school or family ever knew about the college prior to your discovery. It could be a place where you will have a college experience that is enjoyable.
Enjoy the search process! The process of fabricating your university list can be a daunting task, but it’s also an experience that is enjoyable. This can be your possiblity to learn royal resort las vegas reviews as much as you can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the country. This can be your time and energy to explore the wide array of options and look closely at the colleges you might be considering.
I really don’t write this web site to tell you shouldn’t listen to your parents, counselors, or peers. You could have resources that are wonderful your disposal that provide great advice and insight. Counselors find out about many different colleges and may manage to let you know more about those that meet your criteria. Your parents will be in a position to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You just have in order to make sure their advice also aligns with everything you want in a college experience.
Having said that, I did buy and totally rocked the pants that are red. We’ll acknowledge if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the college, but at the end of the that didn’t matter day. It didn’t make me feel better about myself plus it was quite really a waste of the time and cash. But i did so follow my heart and became a theatre major rather than an engineer, and I also’m so happy I did. More on that later.
